Life Update: post-second year, pre-step 1

HAAIII GUYS!

I haven’t written a blog post in so long 😦 . Today I’m writing a little one just to share what has been going on in my life and what is to come in the next month or so!

On Wednesday, I took the CBSE exam (Comprehensive Basic Science Exam), which consists of 4 sections of 50 questions, timed for 1 hour and 15 minutes a section. IT WAS DRAINING. But, it is supposed to be an indicator of what our step 1 exam score would be if we took Step that same day. I actually was pleasantly surprised with my score, and am feeling motivated to keep working hard to improve and master the material that always slips my mind.

After the CBSE, my class had a banquet to celebrate finishing up second year and to say goodbye to classmates as we go off for dedicated Step 1 study and before we split into our different campuses for 3rd and 4th year. First and second year have flown by and were only made survivable with the help of all the friends I had made. It was bittersweet to celebrate with all my classmates while knowing it could be the last time I see a lot of them for a long time, maybe even until graduation in two years!

Thursday morning, I made the drive back to Cleveland where I will be living with my parents and studying for Step 1! I’m taking a few days off before getting back to the study mode to reset my brain and give it a little break. I’m nervous yet excited for the coming weeks. I know it will be difficult and there will be days where I can’t get myself to focus or read all the pages I’m supposed to read, but that is exactly why I decided to come home to study for Step 1. I am so happy to have the help of my fiancé and family during this time!

I can’t wait to share with you all my detailed methods for studying for Step. I’m chosing to wait until I take my exam and get my score back to make sure that I’m satisfied with my method before sharing it!

After my Step exam, I am going to one of my best friend’s weddings, getting engagement pictures taken, and going wedding dress shopping! Wedding planning and being a med student has surprisingly been extremely fun!

Let me know what you are up to in the coming weeks ahead!!!

-Madison 🙂
